Now, this one has been a long time coming actually. This is the story of how I met Alex.
After Anime Boston 2011, Heather and I became a part of this huge skype chat full of the homestuck cosplayers from that year, as was Alex. We found that we lived in pretty much the same town as them, so we would go and hang out sometimes. One day, we decided to go back to my house, to pick up a video game or costume supplies or something, I’m a little fuzzy on the details now. Anyway, I live ridiculously close to the elementary school in my town, one of which Alex had gone to for a short time. Now, what a stinkin’ coincidence, right? They were a grade below me, so we were pretty sure that we hadn’t actually talked to each other before now. However, we were both a part of the band there and the band was 3rd-5th grade combined, since it was pretty small.
As we racked our brains trying to think of some shared memories we would have, I remembered a song that our music teacher created as the weather grew colder, a song that Alex remembered as well. The song was about the knee high, thick socks I would wear to keep warm. I was always pulling them up because they would slide down my legs and the song went like this:
Julia’s socks are falling down, falling down, falling down
Julia’s socks are falling down all the do da day
Tie them up around her neck, round her neck, round her neck
Tie them up around her neck, so she’ll finally play
And there you have it. A single sarcastic song that brought together two long lost friends from elementary school.
